For the past 6 years Margaret House Refuge has received support from two amazing ladies in Sydney: Sonia McAlpine and Maxine Baudish.  Each year they put on a movie night and raise funds for our refuge in Young.

This year, they raised an astounding $14,164 from the night with 299 people coming to support our little refuge and watch the movie “The Devil Wears Prada 2”.  With personal donations on the night, the figure has grown to over $20,000.

Of all the wonderful charities, we are overwhelmed and humbled by the support we receive from so far away.  Thank you Sonia and Maxine and to all the people who supported the night and raised much needed funds for our refuge.

We are truly grateful.

Paint the Hilltops Purple

In November 2024, the Hilltops region was adorned with the colour purple, as a united front against family and domestic violence. Many shopfronts and local homes joined the awareness event with their creative decorations, as purple balloons filled the street and many locals dressed in purple clothing.

Conversations were had all over the town of Young, as the committee members of YCAC, MHR and our local member, Stephanie Cooke shared the challenges that face so many families and how everyone can get involved in supporting their essential work.

Ms Cooke said in the article called Paint the Hilltops Purple. ‘Tragically, the Hilltops region has one of the highest levels of domestic-violence related assaults across South-Eastern NSW. The work of YCAC and Margaret House Refuge and their team of volunteers is truly saving lives,”

Margaret House Refuge Building Hope Ball

This Spring Ball was a huge success. An opportunity for the MHR committee to share their new huge goal and to begin the fundraising for the Building Hope Project (Link to Goals page for more information.)
